My name is Vera Kowal and I am the vocational evaluator for the New York Institute for Special Education. For the past six years, I have administered the McCarron-Dial Comprehensive Vocational evaluation system (CVES) for the Visually Impaired and Blind. This evaluation is given to students between the ages of 18 to 21 years old to assist in transition planning. This assessment identifies relative strengths and weaknesses in the areas of learning, problem solving, accomplishments, sensory abilities, motor abilities, emotional coping, and adaptive behaviors. It takes a student about eight hours to complete this assessment which should be divided into two four-hour sessions in order to avoid test fatigue. Two additonal hours should be allocated to update the student's background information and for computer entry of the test scores. The assessment results are helpful in identifying the student's vocational functioning and potential residential functioning level. Training is required after purchasing this system and workshops are available throughout the United States. For information contact:
